Work out to curb fast food cravings – and weight gain

Regular physical activity can improve brain function related to food choices, reduce stress, and promote a healthier relationship with food. While exercise alone won't completely negate the effects of a diet high in processed foods, it plays a crucial role in managing cravings and improving overall health, which can indirectly help in reducing processed food consumption.

How exercise helps combat processed food consumption:
• Reduces cravings: Exercise, even moderate intensity like a brisk walk, can help regulate brain activity, making it easier to resist unhealthy food choices.
• Improves mood and reduces stress: Exercise releases endorphins, which can improve mood and reduce stress, a common trigger for emotional eating and cravings for processed foods.
Enhances cognitive function:
• Promotes healthy habits: Regular exercise can encourage other healthy habits, like cooking more meals at home and making mindful food choices.
Experts recommend starting with moderate exercise. A 20-minute brisk walk can be a great starting point and later incorporate strength training. Strength training can help build muscle mass, which can boost metabolism and make it easier to manage weight.
But perhaps the true key to success is to find activities you enjoy: The more you enjoy your exercise, the more likely you are to stick with it.
