All May long, Skin Cancer Awareness Month encourages us to learn preventative skin care habits and seek screenings for early intervention. But as the month draws to a close, it is important to remember to stay focused on Sun Safety – especially in summer. (Although in El Paso Sun Safety should be exercised all year long.)
• Prepare for activities and summer skin exposure.
• Carry sun protection everywhere you go - for you and the family.
• Re-apply sunblock throughout the day, even on cloudy days.
• When possible, wear long-sleeves and spend time in the shade.
• Wear a hat. Most skin cancers occur on the head and neck. A hat protects the scalp, forehead, nose, and ears—areas that are often missed when applying sunscreen or where sunscreen is impractical to apply.
• Know your risk. Have those moles checked and get a baseline on file with your dermatologists
