There isn’t a single food that prevents breast cancer. Instead, concentrate on an overall healthy eating pattern that helps you maintain a healthy weight—and pay attention to alcohol, which is directly linked with increased breast cancer risk.
1. PUT MORE PLANTS ON YOUR PLATE.
Build meals around vegetables, fruits, beans and whole grains. Add healthy protein sources such as fish, beans or poultry while limiting highly processed foods and red and processed meats.
2. WATCH WHAT YOU DRINK, TOO.
Alcohol increases breast cancer risk. For cancer prevention, the American Cancer Society says it is best not to drink alcohol. Women who choose to drink should limit themselves to no more than one drink per day.
3. SKIP THE “BREAST HEALTH” SUPPLEMENTS.
There’s no strong evidence that vitamins or dietary supplements reduce breast cancer risk. Food is the better place to concentrate your efforts.
