There isn’t currently an effective routine ovarian cancer screening test for women at average risk who don’t have symptoms. That makes paying attention to changes in your body—and being comfortable talking about them—especially important.
1. KNOW YOUR NORMAL.
Bloating, pelvic or abdominal discomfort, feeling full quickly and needing to urinate more often can have many causes. Pay attention when something is new, persistent or getting worse.
2. DON’T TALK YOURSELF OUT OF ASKING.
It’s easy to dismiss changes as aging, menopause, something you ate or “probably nothing.” You don’t need to decide what a symptom means. That’s what your healthcare provider is there to help determine.
3. SPEAK UP WITHOUT FEELING SILLY.
You know when something feels different in your body. If a change concerns you or persists, say something. Asking a question isn’t overreacting.
