As if we need another reason to limit our screentime, experts warn that social media can negatively affect your workout performance. Studies have shown that scrolling through social media before a workout can lead to decreased mental focus and reduced performance due to cognitive fatigue, potentially impacting the number of reps you can do or the intensity of your workout.
Here are some key strategies to balance exercise and social media:
• Schedule exercise first: Block out specific times in your day for exercise and treat it like an important appointment, avoiding distractions from social media during those periods.
• Limit scrolling during workouts: Avoid checking social media while exercising to fully focus on your workout routine.
• Disconnect during workouts: Put your phone on silent or use a dedicated "Do Not Disturb" mode while exercising.
