Coffee Can Be Good for You—Depending on What You Add

By - Ted Escobedo 1 hour ago   1 min read

Pumpkin spice season is here and while there's nothing wrong with enjoying your favorite fall coffee drink, it's worth remembering that coffee and a coffee drink aren't necessarily the same thing. Plain brewed coffee has very few calories and no added sugar. But add flavored syrups, sweetened creamers, whipped cream, cold foam and toppings, and your morning coffee can quickly become more like dessert—and may be best enjoyed as an occasional treat.

That doesn’t mean you have to give up the fun stuff. Instead, try making a coffee drink at home that delivers the creamy, slightly sweet flavor you’re craving—with an added boost of protein.
Make a High-Protein Iced Coffee
The Greek yogurt and milk provide protein, while the banana adds natural sweetness and gives the drink a creamy texture without flavored syrups or whipped cream.
Want more protein? Add a small amount of your favorite unsweetened or low-sugar protein powder. (Just check the label.)
Ingredients
• 1 cup chilled brewed coffee or cold brew
• ½ cup low-fat milk
• ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
• ½ banana, frozen
• ½ teaspoon vanilla
• A pinch of cinnamon
• Ice
Directions
Blend everything until smooth and creamy. (For a little fall flavor, add a pinch of pumpkin pie spice.)
