National Wine and Cheese Day

On July 25, we celebrate the ultimate pairing of wine and cheese. National Wine and Cheese Day provides an opportunity to enjoy some of our favorites or sample something new. The pairing of wines and cheese has been a regionalized tradition across wine-producing cultures. Here are some guidelines:
Pairing wine and cheese doesn't have to be complicated. Focus on matching the intensity and flavor profiles of the wine and cheese, either by complementing or contrasting their characteristics. For example, a crisp Sauvignon Blanc pairs well with tangy goat cheese, while a bold Cabernet Sauvignon complements aged Cheddar
General Guidelines:
• Intensity: Match the intensity of the wine with the cheese. Bold, aged cheeses pair well with bold, full-bodied wines like Cabernet Sauvignon. Lighter cheeses go well with lighter wines like Pinot Noir or Sauvignon Blanc.
• Texture:
Consider the texture of the cheese. Creamy cheeses like Brie pair well with sparkling wines, while crumbly cheeses like aged Cheddar match with structured wines.
• Saltiness: Salty cheeses like blue cheese or aged Gouda can be balanced with sweeter wines like a dessert wine or a sparkling wine.
• Acidity: Wines with high acidity, like Sauvignon Blanc, can cut through the richness of creamy cheeses.
