Cantaloupes are a summer favorite – especially here in Texas. And it’s a good thing - the fiber, potassium, and vitamin C present in cantaloupe are vital nutrients for your heart health. Potassium can help to lower high blood pressure, which is a risk factor for heart disease. Fiber helps to decrease levels of “bad cholesterol” in your body. It can also keep your blood pressure in check.
Try this easy and refreshing Cantaloupe smoothie:
Ingredients:
1/2 cup ice cubes
1 cup cantaloupe, cut into 1-inch pieces, frozen
1/2 cup sliced banana
1/4 cup plain and unsweetened Greek yogurt
1/2 cup pineapple juice
Directions:
Cut the cantaloupe into 1-inch pieces and place in a single layer in a resealable bag. Freeze until solid, at least 4 hours or overnight. If you’re using fresh cantaloupe, increase the ice to 1 1/2 cups. Add the solid ingredients into a blender first, like the ice. This ensures that the blades immediately break them down into small ice crystals. Next add the pieces of cantaloupe, banana, yogurt, and pineapple juice. Blend the ingredients to a smooth consistency
