Another great summer fruit is the fig. They are great for sweetening salads, baking homemade fig newtons or simply enjoying them on their own. Figs are excellent for several digestive issues. In addition to their high fiber content, however, figs aid digestion in another way. They are an excellent source of prebiotics, which improve overall gut health.
This fig and honey smoothie is packed with antioxidants and plenty of good-for-you carbs and fats. Plus, it is naturally sweetened with fruit and honey.
Ingredients
4 medium fresh figs
1/2 medium ripe banana
7 to 8 ounces plain Greek yogurt
1 tablespoon honey
1 pinch salt
1/4 to 1/2 cup milk, or to taste
Directions
Cut the tips of the fig stems off, slice in half and add to a blender or small food processor.
Add the banana half, Greek-style yogurt, honey, salt, and 1/4 cup of the milk to the blender.
Puree until smooth and continue adding milk if you'd like a thinner consistency.
