Broccoli for the Brain
04 Aug 2021 by Ted Escobedo 2 min read
As well as being a low-calorie source of dietary fiber, broccoli may be good for the brain. Here’s the scientific explanation: Broccoli is rich in compounds called glucosinolates. When the body breaks these down, they produce isothiocyanates. Isothiocyanates may oxidative stress and lower the risk of neurodegenerative diseases. Broccoli also contains vitamin C and flavonoids, and these antioxidants can further boost a person’s brain health.
Science aside, broccoli can be a delicious way to give your brain a boost. Nutritionists have touted the benefits of broccoli and other super foods that help us nourish both our minds and bodies.
There will be a special free class on August 14 that delves into the connection between what we eat and how we think. For more information visit www.rgcf.org or call 915-562-7660.
