Sardines help prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes

The health benefits of sardines and oily fish are widely known: their high levels of unsaturated fats help to regulate cholesterol levels and prevent the onset of cardiovascular diseases. However, the benefits don't end there. A recent study has discovered that the regular consumption of sardines helps to prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes. Nutrients found in high quantities in sardines - such as taurine, omega 3, calcium and vitamin D - help to protect against this disease which affects around 14% of the Spanish population over the age of 18.
Here are some ideas on how to make the most of a can of sardines:
1. Grill or fry them add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and eat!
2. Pile a couple on toast or hearty crackers with a spread of mustard, a squeeze of lemon, or some sliced tomatoes and red onion for more flavor.
3. Add them to salad. Whether you take them straight from the can, or give them a quick grill or fry first, a few sardines will totally transform a salad.
