Peppers offer winter allergy relief

Winter allergies differ from other seasonal allergies because typically our homes are sealed up and we run our furnaces. Even with HEPA filters and cleaning every day, allergies can get the best of us during the cold of winter.
Try spicing up your nights with peppers to help alleviate sinus congestion. Almost all peppers are packed with histamine-busting flavonoid quercetin. Some pack more of a wallop like ancho peppers. These dried poblanos contain 9 times the amount of quercetin than other vegetables like broccoli can boast. Jalapenos and serrano peppers are also rich in quercetin, so get that hot salsa brewing.
If diet restrictions limit the amount of spicy food you can eat try bell peppers. They are rich in vitamin C and the perfect medicine for allergy sufferers. Vitamin C is a natural antihistamine, so load up on bell peppers and almost all citrus fruits.
