How to curb emotional eating

23 Jan 2021 by Ted Escobedo   2 min read

While there is nothing wrong with occasionally enjoying ‘comfort food,’ eating to fulfill an emotional void can be serious. People who emotionally eat reach for food as a way to suppress and soothe negative feelings. Unfortunately, binge eating during these times often leads to additional feelings of guilt and unnecessary weight gain.

Here are a few ways to limit emotionally triggered eating:

  • Find another form of stress release: reading, writing in a journal or getting outside for some exercise can work wonders.A walk around the block can help clear your mind as you work through your emotionally triggered food craving. Meditation is also very effective. If you are new to meditation, there are hundreds of videos online that can help guide you.
