Agave Nectar has a favorable glycemic profile because its sweetness comes primarily from a complex form of fructose called Inulin. The Inulin fiber stimulates the growth of friendly and healthy intestinal bacteria which supports good colon health, and it also has a very low glycemic index. Agave Syrup taste is comparable to sugar and can be used as a sugar replacement in food and beverages – with these considerations: according to the American Diabetes Association agave should be treated just like any sweetener (like sugar, corn syrup or honey) and be consumed in limited amounts. As an anti-inflammatory, the juice and sap of the Agave plant can be applied to wounds as an anti-inflammatory, and the active agents in the juice can also have pain-relieving properties, which makes treating wounds with this plant-based medicine a two-fold win.
