Practice Active Listening

22 May 2021 by Ted Escobedo   1 min read

Active listening involves more than just hearing someone speak. When you practice active listening, you are fully concentrating on what is being said. You listen with all your senses and give your full attention to the person speaking.

Active listening helps to earn the trust of others and allows you to understand their situations. Active listening comprises both a desire to comprehend as well as to offer support and empathy to the speaker.

Here are some features of active listening:

  • Being neutral and nonjudgmental
  • Being patient and allow for periods of silence
  • Providing verbal and nonverbal feedback to show signs of listening like smiling, making eye contact or leaning in.
