It seems that our most strict critics are ourselves. But, being too hard on yourself can take its’ toll. A less than positive body image can lead to other emotional issues and self-esteem problems. Here are some points for you to consider:
Appreciate all that your body can do. Celebrate all of the amazing things your body does for you— breathing should start the list. What will you add; running, dancing? Remember you are more than your body. We are all given a spirit and soul than cannot be seen in a mirror. Remind yourself that “true beauty” is not simply skin-deep. When you feel good about yourself and who you are, you carry yourself with a sense of confidence, self-acceptance, and openness that makes you beautiful. Beauty is a state of mind, not a state of your body. Look at yourself as a whole person. When you see yourself in a mirror or in your mind, try not to focus on specific body parts or features-look at the ‘whole you.’ Surround yourself with positive people. It has been said that the best mirror is a true friend. You may be surprised how a friend who loves you can see you in a way that you cannot see yourself.Remember to be a positive influence for them too. Wear clothes that are comfortable and that make you feel good about your body. Work with your body, not against it. A good outfit goes a long way in boosting self-esteem. Do something nice for yourself — something that lets your body know you appreciate it. Do something nice for someone else. A kind act for another person can help you feel better about yourself and can make a positive change in our world.
