Mindfulness to reduce anxiety

23 Apr 2020 by Ted Escobedo   2 min read

Mindfulness involves focusing your attention to what's happening in the present moment. It aims to help you become more aware of your thoughts and feelings, helping you to react to them calmly. Many people find mindfulness helpful for managing negative thoughts and feelings of stress.

Mindfulness training draws on the ancient tradition of meditation. The key to mindfulness is to slow down and process each of your senses and bring yourself into the here and now.

In mindfulness practice you use:

  • breath – focusing on the physical sensation of breathing
  • body – focusing on stillness
  • sense-focusing on hearing, sight and taste
  • Like meditation, you can practice mindfulness throughout the day. With practice, mindfulness can become your default reaction to everyday life and stressful situations which will help control anxiety.
