Don’t look for the closest parking spot

Some cities are more ‘walkable’ and offer many ways to eat, shop and play by foot. Studies show that people who live in cities made for walking have lower obesity rates and are generally healthier. (If you are looking for inspiration, read the book "French Women Don't Get Fat.") El Paso is a commuter city. The majority of us drive our cars everywhere. You can help get a few hundred extra steps in a day simply by looking for parking spaces the furthest away from where you are headed. If you are really serious, try a faster pace than usual. The brisk walk will get your heart pumping and burn some extra calories. It can also save you some frustration if you tend to get super competitive looking for the ‘primo parking spot.’
