Be honest about your emotions this holiday season

The upcoming holidays may drastically highlight our feelings of distance from those we love. It may be necessary to start mentally preparing now for a different experience this holiday season. Experts suggest reminding yourself as much as you need to that “it’s only for this year.” It is especially important to be in the right frame of mind. For instance, if food is a meaningful part of your holiday experience consider a socially-distanced food exchange. This year if you don’t feel comfortable going to a family member’s house for a long meal, you can still share various dishes and drop them off.
Trading recipes online or sharing a meal together via Zoom or another video call option is also a way to keep mix digital technology with tradition. This goes for other aspects of your celebration, as well. If there is a a religious devotion your family likes to share or maybe just get together as a family and talk and reminisce, you can use video conferencing options for connecting. With a little creativity, the warm feelings we get from friends and family during the holidays can still be enjoyed, if only at a distance. It's only for this year.
